Cape Town is the location of the Africa Intercontinental Marathon ™ and the second marathon during the World Marathon Challenge ®.

Cape Town is a port city on South Africa’s southwest coast, on a peninsula beneath the imposing Table Mountain. Slowly rotating cable cars climb to the mountain’s flat top, from which there are sweeping views of the city, the busy harbor and boats heading for Robben Island, the notorious prison that once held Nelson Mandela, which is now a living museum.

The Africa Intercontinental Marathon will take place at Sea Point Promenade, Cape Town on February 1st. The event is scheduled to start opposite the Winchester Mansions Hotel, and consists of six loops of 7.3 km on a flat, scenic course.

Area: 30 million km² / 12 million sq mi

Africa is the second-largest continent after Asia. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea (north), the Atlantic Ocean (west), the Indian Ocean (southeast) and both the Suez and the Red Sea along the Sinai Peninsula. It is projected that the continent’s population will more than double by the year 2050, taking it to 2.3 billion people.
Africa is the world’s most underdeveloped continent with a continental GDP that accounts for only 2.4% of global GDP.
The highest point is Kilimanjaro at 5,895 metres.
